I want to take some time to write about the fantastic gym I go to. I was reminded of my one year anniversary of training at Fitness on Fire a couple days ago and I feel like it is a great time to talk about my experience more in depth. I actually started writing this post after 2 months of finding FOF and now I get to post it!

I got myself hooked on Spartan Races after running just one. I originally bought a ticket for my boyfriend and me to run one as his birthday gift. Our first Spartan was the Dodger Stadium Sprint. We had so much fun that we booked another!

At the Stadium Sprint I had trouble with the multi rig and getting up the rope so I committed myself to finding the best way to train. I knew I wanted to get better – especially in upper body strength.

I looked on a couple Spartan Forums and there were so many great comments about FOF so I decided to research them a bit more. After checking out their reviews and pages, I got in contact with the co-owner, Haydee. She was quick to respond, asked me what my goals were and set me up with Coach Taylor to train with. I really like the process of figuring out the individual specific goals and the assessment that comes with this. The staff cares from the beginning stages and beyond. Coach Taylor has been fantastic in motivating me to be the best me! She got me climbing up the rope within a couple weeks and has helped me build my confidence and increase my upper body strength. She helps me set goals and expectations for myself and texts me to check in and make sure I am doing ok. I am SO pleased with the results I have seen in myself. Taylor has helped me mentally, physically and spiritually.

I am constantly committing to new types of races so I have something to work toward and challenge myself. I commit to 4-5 workouts at FOF per week. My membership includes unlimited group classes and then a one on one training session with Taylor. Even when I am in the group classes, I am getting a customized experience to my individual needs. Any questions I have, I feel comfortable to ask. Every single coach is helpful and genuinely cares about your success in whatever you are training for.

My nutrition has been better since I am held accountable. I get really excited to cook new meals and experiment with healthy carbs, recipes, and protein.

My next races in the que for this year are Epic San Diego, Tejon Ranch Beast (pending…maybe), Laughlin Super Spartan, Ragnar Los Coyotes, and then finally Castaic Sprint Spartan. I feel a lot more confident as an athlete when I train with the amazing people and coaches at Fitness on Fire. I am continuously learning.

If you are looking to train for an event or would like to be around a community who cares about you and your journey, then I would definitely check out Fitness on Fire. I do not think you will be disappointed!

ABOUT ME

I would describe myself as someone with a big heart and a slight obsession with dogs and babies. I have a boyfriend that enjoys outdoorsy fun with me and tolerates my spastic decisions. We have a dog named Laila and I make a whole lot of nicknames for her. I will explain some of them later. I am thinking of making a whole section of my blog for Laila Lu Lu (there is one nickname). I go to a kick ass gym, Fitness on Fire. I am inspired by the amazing athletes around me in every single workout I do there. In the past year, I have completed multiple Spartan races and have fallen in love with the hard work, competitive spirit, and fun in each race. I am pretty stoked that the boyfriend likes to compete in Spartan as well because it has turned into our weekend away time. I grew up camping in the desert with off-roading toys and have a real close relationship with both my mama and dad. They are super supportive and helped me along the way of every step of my life. I have a sister and a brother who are super duper tall and could probably step on me if they wanted and I love them a lot too.
I talked about being spastic. I will fall for any good sales pitch. I am talking about people just presenting me with a real nice product – I will get hooked. I promise. I also try to ball on a budget. When Adventures are presented to me, I try to make it happen! Adventures fill up my cup. My happy cup. There is always a way to get in an adventure and stay humble. Follow me if you want to see my journey but with some cool tidbits and ideas along the way. I will write about lifestyle stuff, travel stuff, and fun stuff. This is my first blog so let’s go! What an adventure I am presenting myself with.
